About B.Sc Banking and Finance
The programme seeks to develop appropriate skills, but not restricted to, graduate careers in finance, particularly within the banking sector, but with the potential for management positions and general employ-ability, including self-reliance. It will also equip the students with the theoretical and practical knowledge with analytical skills backed by powerful quantitative tools to help understand complex financial issues. It combines an overall grounding in courses which are at the core of the modern finance and help to emphasize the true analysis of banking institutions in Nigeria with its relevance to global standard.

Philosophy
The requirements of modern days banking industry and the financial sector are very challenging and require a high-level manpower to ensure efficient management of resources in the banking industry. The four or three-year degree programme in Banking and Finance is designed to enable graduates to acquire necessary skills and knowledge required for the efficient management of Banks and non-Bank Financial Institutions. The world of banking and finance is the most volatile and engendered with the highest level of regulation world-wide. The programme, thus, provides a solid foundation for developing and consolidating a career in banking and finance to promote intellectual and practical skills to support students both as learners, existing and as future professionals of both financial and non-financial sector.

Aim and Objective
The objectives of the degree programme are to: (i) impart to the students the basic knowledge of good banking and finance, with ethical values, moral excellence and good character in their dealings as professionals. (ii) equip the graduates in banking and finance with the analytical and managerial tools necessary to prepare them for management positions in the financial sector. (iii) facilitate a working relationship with appropriate professional body such as Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in promoting the acquisition of requisite skills and knowledge in banking and finance industry. (iv) produce graduates with sound and professional academic skills in banking and finance that can compete favourably with other graduates in the discipline in any other parts of the world. (v) to contribute to the body of knowledge in banking and finance through academic publication research papers both nationally and internationally.

Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements for the Four-Year Programme Candidates for admission into the four-year degree programme in Banking & Finance should: (i) Possess the Senior Secondary School Certificate, General Certificate of Education, by WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or their equivalents with at least five credit passes, at not more than two sittings including Mathematics, English Language and Economics. There are no waivers for credit passes in any of these subjects. (ii) In addition, candidates must have acceptable passes in UTME. The UTME subjects must be in the following: English, Mathematics, Economics, and any other Social Science subject. B. Admission Requirements for the Three-Year Programme (Direct Entry) Candidates for Direct Entry admission shall possess five Credits, in GCE, SSCE by WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or their equivalents, of which at least two shall be at Advanced Level, provided that such passes are not counted at both levels of the examination. For emphasis, credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and Economics are required. OR Candidates must possess five Credits which must include English Language, Mathematics and Economics in GCE, SSCE by WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or their equivalents; at most two sittings, and Ordinary National Diploma (O.N.D) at least with upper credit in Accounting, Banking& Finance and other related disciplines from approved Nigerian Polytechnics. OR Candidates with final certificate of professional bodies such as Associate Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB) or Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) in addition to five credits passes which must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, not more than two sittings.
